Chester 3-0 Alfreton Town

Alfreton Town suffered a fourth defeat in five league games as Chester continued their promotion push as they hit three past the Reds in a scrappy contest.

In a game which both sides were looking to really find form, it was the hosts who gained a big three points to return to winning ways in a contest where neither side really played fantastically well. The Reds performance was again full of effort but our defending cost us in terms of the manner of the goals conceded.

The game started reasonably well for Alfreton with Amari Morgan-Smith and Nyle Blake linking well, Josh Clackstone's early cross was blocked away for a throw which came to nothing.

Bobby Johnson fired a free kick into the wall before Amari snatched at an effort which went way over the bar in the box. Danny East then headed wide from Shane Killock's cross after a period of both sides trading the ball.

We soaked up several corners before Bobby fired over the bar, then on 33 Killock saw his header hit the top of the crossbar following a Bobby corner.

Chester took the lead on 35 minutes, when Livesey poached on a failed clearance from us after a scramble in the box, the clearance from Shane Killock looked to have hit Livesey as the ball squirmed over the line.

This gave the Seals evident momentum, Glendon fired over as the first half drew to an end.

The second half started in horrible fashion as Chester made it 2-0 on 47, Livesey grabbed his second as we couldn't clear a ball into the box and the defender reacted to finish into the bottom corner.

The half descended into a game of very few openings with the Reds struggling to fight their way back into it and Chester happy with the two goal lead. Amari couldn't control a Josh Thacker cross before Harvey Grice was caught offside.

Then with 89 gone, it was 3-0 as a corner flew directly into the bottom corner, however the Referee deemed there to be a foul on Charlie Andrew as the ball went into the net. There was confusion as some players thought the goal was given and others reacted to the free kick being awarded.

We took the free kick quickly only for Elliott to react and finish into the bottom corner from a few yards, it was a bizarre goal and one to complete another defeat for the Reds as our league form continues to slide.

Next, we travel to Hereford on Tuesday night with a 7.45pm kick off before hosting Gloucester City on Saturday at the Impact Arena at 3pm.
