Alfreton’s performance in the opening twenty minutes was as good at the Reds had been all season. A high intensity start lead to Jake Day having two chances to open the scoring, first a looping header was cleared off the line by Michael Ledger before being denied by a wonderful block from keeper Brad James as the Moors hung on in the early stages.
As the initial on-pour was rode out by the visitors, they began to grow into the game. The Moors first opportunity of the match game when Isaac Fletcher drove into the left side of the penalty area before drilling a powerful shot just wide of the front post. Again on the counter, Rob Ramshaw and Will Harris ran clear into the Alfreton half, but the duo couldn’t work the ball effectively enough to trouble George Willis and Alfreton survived.
The first half ended goalless, despite both teams having good opportunities to have broke the deadlock. Into the second half, both teams continued to threaten. Olly Dyson and Harris both had decent efforts on goal for the visitors whilst on the hour mark Liam Waldock forced an impressive save from James.
The crucial moment arrived on 64 minutes. Matty Dolan swung a brilliant free-kick into the far post which was punched straight up in the air by Willis, spiraling into the air before bouncing inside the Reds six yard box and being deflected over the line by Dwayne Riley.
After that, it was all Alfreton as they looked to maintain their incredible unbeaten home run alive. The ball was relentlessly fired into the Moors penalty area as Alfreton looked for a leveler. Adam Lund thought he had rescued a point late on when he drilled a low shot at goal from a right-wing corner but James once again got down to secure all three points for Spennymoor.
A memorable victory for Spennymoor and a night to forget for Alfreton who miss out on the opportunity to of made it one year unbeaten at home had they of beaten their next opponents Brackley Town, who coincidently were the last team to taste victory at the Impact Arena.
The Reds face a quick turnaround before they travel to Rushall Olympic on Saturday as Billy Heath’s side look to get back to winning ways!
