Alfreton Town 1-1 Kings Lynn Town

Alfreton Town huffed and puffed but ultimately had to settle for a replay on Tuesday night with Kings Lynn as David Lynch's first half strike continued our unbeaten start at the Impact Arena on Saturday.

Lynch guided in a wonderful low curling shot just before half time to equalise for the Reds, but a trip to the Walks for a second time this season on a Tuesday night presents a tough test for Alfreton if we are to progress in this season's Emirates FA Cup.

Kings Lynn dominated the opening 15 minutes as they worked the ball well onto either flank and looked to get early crosses in which Shane Killock and Ryan Qualter had to be alert to clear.

Dom Smith intercepted a dangerous one-two on the edge of our box before new loan addition Charlie Andrew palmed away a strong shot from Carey.

Gash then headed a Linnets corner wide in the first big chance of the game, in response Bobby Johnson could only fire way over the bar. The visitors were looking far superior in the final third and deservedly took the lead when Gash flicked a long ball onto Marriott who raced through and lobbed the ball over Andrew into the empty net.

Andrew then denied Carey in the box with a crucial block before Killock and Andrew cleared successive crosses in. Amari Morgan-Smith had his first moment heading a Johnson free kick wide when unmarked.

The Reds were growing into the contest and began to pressure more consistently as Danny Clarke had a shot which Street saved before a handball shout was waved away as Clarke's cross was blocked, the Linnets then cleared away from just in front of the goal line with Conor Branson lurking.

Branson then head a shot blocked before Street held onto a Qualter curler from inside the D. Amari went down in the box after he was blocked off but the penalty claims were waved away.

But with 44 gone we did get ourselves level with David Lynch guided a low curling shot into the bottom corner before Andrew tipped a shot from the edge of the box over the bar. This at least took us into the break all square.

The second half saw Alfreton the better side but there wasn't much happening within the first 15 of the second period, Street was called into action just before the hour mark, tipping a deflected Josh Clackstone effort over the bar.

Then with 59 gone the Reds were given a penalty when Clarke surged forward, raced past his man before being taken out by Street in the box. Amari stepped up but could only hammer the penalty over the bar in what proved to be the biggest chance of the second half.

Branson tried the spectacular with an effort from just inside the Kings Lynn half as Street raced out to clear a ball, but the effort went wide of the post. But as the half progressed both sides struggled in the final third with the final ball lacking for the Reds in what proved to be a frustrating second half as we couldn't seal progression.

The Reds will have to do it all again in our third meeting of the season with Kings Lynn as we head to the Walks for a second time for the replay on Tuesday night to determine who will be in the Third Qualifying Round, kick off is 7.45pm.
