Southwell looks ahead to Seals visit - Alfreton Town vs Chester (Match Preview)

Jacob Hackett29 Apr 2022 - 19:26

Alfreton face the Seals this Saturday

The Reds host Chester at the Impact Arena on Saturday afternoon as they look to stretch their impressive unbeaten run to nine matches.

Billy Heath’s side came out on top of a six-goal pulse-raiser in their last encounter on Tuesday evening, defeating Curzon Ashton 4-2 on home soil to move within a point of the play-off spots.

The ever-impressive Matt Rhead scored his 11th and 12th league goals of the season, both from the penalty spot, alongside a first Reds goal for Lewis Salmon and a third goal in two games for defender Dom Smith.

Victory on Tuesday saw Alfreton’s unbeaten run increase to eight games as Heath’s men rose to eighth place in the National League North table.

The Seals travel to Derbyshire having won just one of their last five matches following their 1-0 defeat to York City on Tuesday evening.

Steve Watson’s side currently sit 17th in the league table and are set for another campaign in the National League North next season.

Despite their league position, Alfreton star Dayle Southwell believes Chester will provide a firm test.

“I expect a very tough encounter with Chester,” claimed Southwell.

“We know we are in great form though, and [we] go into the game full of confidence. Ultimately [we] know what we need to do to win the game.

“We are all looking forward to it and [we] hope we can deliver the three points.”

The Grimsby-born ace has featured in the previous 22 fixtures, starting 21 of them; a stretch of appearances he is pleased with.

“Personally, it is great to have such a run in the side [where I am] contributing to a strong end to the season,” stated the forward.

“[I] would have loved to score more goals, but helping the team in any way I can to achieve what we want to achieve is always the main goal.”

The forward continued by reflecting on Tuesday’s victory.

“Curzon was a great win for us,” said the 28-year-old.

“We are demonstrating as a group how dangerous we can be and the threat [that] we pose going forwards. [We] are always capable of scoring goals.

“[There was] great character shown from everyone as Curzon kept coming back at us and we kept finding answers to keep them out and go on to put the game to bed.

“This now sets us up perfectly for an exciting final three games!”

Those final three games mentioned above could see the Reds finish in the play-off positions if results go the right way.

Southwell is looking forward to the challenge.

He said: “We approach the final three games with no fear and nothing to lose.

“We are on a great run and continue to take it game by game with an inner belief that we can go on and make those play-offs.”

Alfreton face Chester at 3pm on Saturday afternoon where we look forward to welcoming everyone to the Impact Arena for the penultimate home game of the season!
