Alfreton Town are delighted to confirm the signing of goalkeeper George Willis, most previously at Boston United.
Willis is the Reds 15th addition to the squad this summer and eighth new signing.
George joined the Pilgrims in May 2017 after opting to turn down the offer of a new contract with Gainsborough Trinity. The former Sheffield United youngster progressed through the Bramall Lane system before spending various spells away on loan.
Willis featured for the Reds back in the 2014/15 National League season, arriving from Sheffield United on loan in December 2014.
George penned new contracts with the Pilgrims in 2018 and 2019 and was named as the club’s player of the year in April 2019 following an impressive 2018-2019 campaign as United captain.
George made 88 appearances for the Pilgrims across three seasons, but only featured three times for Boston in the 2019/20 campaign, spending three months on loan back at Gainsborough, where he made 15 appearances.
Billy Heath on George’s arrival:
"George is still a young goalkeeper and at 24 he has lots of experience at National League North level. We've been keeping an eye on him for a few seasons and especially last season. We are so pleased to get him and get the signing over the line."
"Being at Boston and Gainsborough in the last few seasons, George will bring fantastic quality to us between the sticks. He is very mobile, has fantastic feet and is a good communicator. A very solid goalie, it's a big plus to have him."
Welcome, George!
