The ex-Lincoln striker joins the Reds having scored over 150 goals during his playing career

Alfreton Town is delighted to announce that they have agreed a deal to bring experienced forward Matt Rhead to the Club, following his release from Boreham Wood.

The 37-year-old, who scored the goal to take Luke Garrard’s side to the National League play-off semi-finals in 2019/20, struggled for regular starts last season despite making 30 appearances in all competitions.

Having worked his way through the non-league pyramid with the likes of Kidsgrove, Eastwood and Corby, Rhead joined Mansfield in 2012 as they looked to get back into the Football League.

He went onto score five goals in 37 games as the Stags lifted the Conference Premier title in his first season at the club.

Rhead dropped back into the fifth tier when he signed for Lincoln ahead of the 2015/16 campaign and he hit the ground running at Sincil Bank.

The striker netted 23 times that season, before reaching double-figures in the following campaign as he guided The Imps to promotion into League Two and to the quarter-final of the FA Cup.

After a four-year stay at Lincoln, Rhead made the switch to Billericay, but he was at the Essex-based outfit for six months before joining The Wood.

The 6”4 frontman now becomes the Reds’ fifth summer signing after Tom Allan, Josh Wilde, George Cowan and Rob Evans all put pen to paper on a deal for the 2021/22 campaign as Billy Heath shapes up his squad for pre-season.

Welcome to Alfreton, Rheady!
