Hereford 1-2 Alfreton Town

Amari Morgan-Smith’s 14th of the season in all competitions, a second half close range rocket; claimed a first ever win at Edgar Street for the Reds and moved us back into the play off positions.

Amari reacted to a half-cleared corner on 52 minutes, to hammer the ball into the roof of the net to the delight of the 19 travelling supporters who made the journey on Tuesday night.

The winner came after a first half which saw two goals in the first 12 minutes, Danny East hitting a sweet low volley after just four on the clock with Hall rooted by the shot from 25 yards.

Hereford equalised with 12 gone when Sodeinde’s cross on the left took a glance off Ryan Qualter’s head and nestled in the bottom corner.

The Reds started the game really well and were camped in the Bulls half, some neat movement and attacking play welcomed the first five minutes and with just two gone we should have been ahead.

Danny East’s free kick was met by Shane Killock who forced a point blank save from Hall in the Hereford goal as he tipped the ball over the bar.

Jack Atkinson held onto a shot from just outside the box from Ash as Hereford countered from a corner.

Then with four gone, East gave us the lead when he collected an Amari flick on before firing a low volley into the bottom corner with Hall rooted.

Danny Clarke forced Hall into a low stop with a shot from inside the box, before Sodeinde broke free on the left but saw his shot in the box curl over the bar.

Then with 12 gone, Hereford found the equaliser with Sodeinde’s cross taking a glance off the top of Ryan Qualter’s head and eluded Atkinson in goal as it went into the bottom corner.

It was disappointing for Alfreton who had started the game very well, Amari had a penalty claim waved away before we defended well at the other end to clear successive crosses.

Clarke flashed a shot wide in the box before Pope fired wide of Atkinson’s right post after a good burst forward. Qualter then blocked well before Killock got an important header away as the Bulls had their moments of pressure in the half.

Josh Clackstone had the best chance after the two goals as Josh Thacker’s left wing cross found Clackstone at the far post, but he blazed over. Atkinson then denied Ash after a sensational pass sent the Hereford attacker through.

The second half saw both sides have good periods of play, Hereford started the better as they pressed early on. Dale Whitham produced a good cross towards the near post and Clarke but good defending saw the ball cleared behind.

And from the resulting corner, we took the lead on 49 minutes. East’s corner came in which was only half cleared by the Bulls and Amari was on hand to rifle the ball into the top corner from five yards.

It was the perfect start to the second period, which mirrored the first half and the strong start from the Reds. The goal ratted the hosts who lost their way and their play became rushed and sloppy.

Ash hit the bar from a low free kick which taken short towards him. Atkinson then topped Nicholson’s corner over the bar.

Qualter made a big challenge to prevent Sodeinde getting a shot off in the box. Atkinson then held onto several crosses into the box as we soaked up pressure fairly comfortably as the half progressed.

But the Reds managed the final ten minutes well, forward balls to Amari and Clarke allowed us to gain territory whilst limiting Hereford to very few openings at the end of the game.

It was a massive three points and a first ever win at Edgar Street as we climbed back into the play offs with a performance back to the Reds best. Next, we face Gloucester City a the Impact on Saturday, kick off is 3pm.
