Alfreton Town 2-0 Heanor Town

Amari Morgan-Smith hit a first half brace as holders Alfreton Town sealed safe progression to the next round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup with a 2-0 win over Heanor Town at the Impact Arena on Wednesday night.

The game was over-shadowed by a nasty injury to David Lynch in the first half with the game stopped for six minutes after Lynchy picked up a big gash on his thigh which required immediate attention and subsequently Lynch was taken to hospital.

The injury came minutes after Amari Morgan-Smith hammered in a strike from 20 yards from outside the box on seven minutes, before Amari headed in off the crossbar and the post on 28 to complete the scoring in the first half and the contest.

The first half was dominated by the Reds who controlled the play and the gulf in quality between the two sides was evident. We had several key first half chances a side from the two goals with Amari flashing a shot over the bar in the box, Nyle Blake forced a low stop before Amari headed straight at Pierrepoint from Dec Bacon's corner.

The second half saw a step off the gas from Alfreton, Amari was denied his hat-trick as his low shot was saved in the box, Pierrepoint denied Blake again from a tight angle before Heanor substitute Vowles had their best opening, firing just wide of Charlie Andrew's post from 20 yards.

Amari then dinked an effort over the goalie but the ball hit the post, later in the half Pierrepoint saved from Bacon with his legs in the box. The Lions goalkeeper denied Harvey Grice who struck a powerful effort from outside the box, which proved the last goal action as the Reds eased to victory and progression in the Derbyshire Senior Cup.

Next, we return to league action as we travel to face Chester on Saturday, kick off is 3pm.
