REPORT | Kidderminster Harriers vs Alfreton Town

REPORT | Kidderminster Harriers vs Alfreton Town

Towerzey Lisa26 Mar 2023 - 15:41

Its four clean sheets in five visits to Aggborough as Alfreton Town made it back to back goalless draws in National League North on Saturday.

Mercifully this game was akin to a rollercoaster ride compared to the fare at Southport on Tuesday evening.

Yusifu Ceesay, making a return to the club he had signed for in the summer from the Reds before rejoining Billy Heath`s side this season had a stilfied shot held as early as early as the seventh minute.

Alfreton created their best chance of the entire contest with 21 minutes on the watch, A downward header from Adam Lund from a Danny Preston corner was kept out superbly by Harriers keeper Christian Dibble who produced an acrobatic save to deny the Reds midfielder his first goal of the season.

The hosts carried something of a threat themselves with George Willis holding a shot from the wide right by Caleb Richards before minutes later a cross whistled across the face of the box but nobody in Kidderminster colours could connect.

Conor Branson saw his well struck volley hit his own man in Matt Rhead in the 31st minute.
Alfreton shouts for a penalty went unrewarded in the 43rd minute when Ceesay appeared to be upended in the box but it was the hosts who finished the first half the stronger.

Firstly McNally hooked over the bar after a goalmouth scramble following a Ashley Hemmings cross before in the third additional minute former Alfreton striker Amari Morgan Smith who had come on as a substitute scooped over the crossbar when well positioned at the near post after a cross from Richards.

Alex Penny headed inches wide of George Willis` right hand post 8 minutes minutes in to the second half before Kyle Morrison saw his effort deflect behind for a corner as Kidderminster probed for a way through.

To their credit the Alfreton backline once again stood tall and kept a 15th clean sheet in 37 league games to date.

Matt Rhead saw his header comfortably saved from a Danny Preston freekick on 63 minutes. At the other end George Willis had to be alert to parry an Ashley Hemings shot from a ticket angle with 24 minutes to go.

Dayle Southwell was introduced late on from the bench as he returned to the fray after an injury lay off but saw his effort saved by former Wrexham keeper Christian Dibble on 83 minutes.

The result saw Alfreton drop a place to 10th after Buxton`s 4-1 win over Bradford Park Avenue but thanks to a number of their play off rivals dropping points the Reds closed the gap on the play offs to five points.

With a disappointing 2 goals scored in their last 9 on the road Alfreton will be glad to get back to home comforts with the visit of Spennymoor Town to the Impact Arena on Tuesday.
