Alfreton have been out of action this week due to Spennymoor Town’s continued progression in the Emirates FA Cup. Following the league action on Saturday, October 11th, they remain in 21st position - inside the relegation zone on goal difference only, behind AFC Telford United and Bedford Town.

Next Saturday is all set to be a pivotal afternoon in Enterprise National League North with 21st Alfreton playing 23rd placed Peterborough Sports and 22nd Oxford City playing 24th Southport.

Next Up for the Reds

Alfreton played only their second game in just under a month in what’s been a barren spell for the Reds following their early exit from the FA Cup. They are now set to make a vital journey south to face fellow strugglers Peterborough Sports in a crucial clash. Sports recently appointed former Kidderminster Harriers manager Phil Brown as their new boss and netted their first home goals of the season in a 2-1 win over Brown’s former side on October 4th - his only league game in charge so far.

Alfreton are aiming to end a run of 14 away games without a win, a streak that dates back to a 2-0 victory at Scarborough in February 2025. The last time they faced Peterborough Sports, Ofton were denied all three points after a dramatic late hat-trick from substitute Michael Gyasi, who has since departed to join King’s Lynn, as the Reds suffered their first defeat to the Turbines in six meetings.

Under 23 Professional Development Team

Ryan Conneely’s side hosted unbeaten IDA Sheffield at the Impact Arena this afternoon, where a hat-trick from Quelle Weekes inspired the Reds to another eye-catching and hugely impressive victory in the National Youth League U23 North. The youngsters ran out 5-3 winners, leaving the top five teams in the league all level on nine points. Chesterfield, IDA Sheffield, and Alfreton have each played four fixtures, while league leaders Newcastle have played five and the Steven Gerrard Academy six.

Alfreton’s five-goal haul at the Impact Arena was completed by a goal each from Logan Dimmock-Fox and debutant Mekhai Bessasa-Grant. This increased Dimmock-Fox’s season tally to five as Alfreton secured their third win from four games.

Dimmock-Fox previously played for Radford FC in the United Counties Division One (Step 6 of the non-league system) and Sherwood Colliery’s Under-21 team in November 2024. Quelle Weekes is another talented and highly regarded youngster, having previously played for Cockfosters FC in the Spartan South Midlands League before signing for Isthmian North side Tilbury FC.

Under 19 Academy

Matt Carbon’s youngsters were defeated 4-0 by league leaders FC Halifax Town at the Impact Arena on Wednesday 8th October. They are next in action on Wednesday when they make the trip to Stockport County in National League Under 19 Division I. The young Reds sit in eighth place in the standings.

Injury News

The club is disappointed to announce that popular defender and club legend Josh Clackstone has suffered a setback in his recovery, delaying his return to full match fitness after the injury he sustained in the closing weeks of last season.

Josh needs no introduction to supporters after signing from FC Halifax Town in 2018. Josh has made a huge 252 appearances in a red shirt putting him in ninth place in the all time appearance list scoring five goals. His most recent goal coming from the penalty spot in a 2-2 draw with Warrington Town back in March 2025
