Reds return to action after two weeks at in-form Darlo

After another break from action, Alfreton Town make the journey to Blackwell Meadows on Saturday afternoon to face in-form Darlington in the National League North, kick off is 3pm.

The Reds return to action after a few weeks without a fixture and the break in play would have recharged the batteries somewhat, whilst in turn ironing out injuries for Billy Heath. With the likes of Danny Preston and Jordan Wright still in the frame, the squad should be relatively full strength heading into Saturday's game.

Alfreton's last performance was a return to the excellent displays seen across August and September. The 2-0 success at Curzon Ashton was not only our first win since the 12th November, but it was a display of grit, determination and hard-work and a much needed three points banked for us, to stop the slide in form that had greeted the Reds across the last eight games.

Amari Morgan-Smith gave us the lead inside two minutes, stabbing home at the far post in front of the Nash defender following a flick on from a Josh Clackstone long throw. Bobby Johnson then added a second from the penalty spot after Amari was brought down.

It was first clean sheet for Alfreton since the 1-0 win at Leamington back in October and a first win in eight games in all competitions. We will now be looking to build on the win and continue the momentum, despite the break in action with another difficult away trip on Saturday.

The Reds head into the fixture looking for back to back league wins, we have won just one of our last nine in all competitions but we are aiming to extend our unbeaten league run to four matches, following successive home draws with Kings Lynn and Telford prior to the Curzon win.

We will also be looking for back to back away league wins, after losing our previous three on the road (Telford, Gateshead and York).

Hosts Darlington sit in 11th place in the league table with 36 points from 24 games, they are just a point off the play-offs with a game in hand on teams above them. Darlo are six points and two places above us.

Their current playing record stands at: P24, W11, D3, L10.

The Quakers are fifth in the form table with 12 points gained in their last five games, after a 2-0 home defeat to Harrogate Town in the FA Trophy second round last Saturday, the hosts return to league duty looking to continue their push for the play-off positions and in turn carry on their fantastic home form.

Darlington have lost twice in their last nine in all competitions, winning six. The hosts have won five of their last six in the league and four of their last five at home in all competitions.

The Quakers will be aiming for a fourth straight home win in the NLN on Saturday.

Our last meeting with Darlo came back at the Impact in September, Conor Branson gave us the perfect start with a great strike after just three minutes, however the Quakers stunned us with two goals in three minutes from O'Neill on 84 with a header and then a low finish from Donawa on 86 to send the travelling fans wild and claim a huge win for Darlington.
