Alfreton Town take on Blyth Spartans tomorrow night at the Impact Arena in a FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round replay, as the Reds look to finish the job and book a first round trip to Stockport County in December. Kick off at the Impact Arena is 7.45pm.
After a break in the schedule for Billy Heath and the Reds, with the National League North fixture with Gloucester City postponed at the Impact Arena ten days ago; it was a welcome return to action on Saturday as we played out a 1-1 draw with the Spartans at Croft Park.
It was our first taste of action since Hereford on the 12th November and under adverse conditions, the draw and thus a replay in the FA Trophy tomorrow night at least keeps one major cup competition alive for Alfreton.
It was a game of many chances with Blyth having their fair share and after dominating the first half they deservedly went into the interval 1-0 up thanks to a low finish from Sweet. We then rode our luck throughout the second half but we stepped up into the gears and created plenty ourselves and based off the second half, the draw was a fair result in the end. Harvey Grice's fantastic volley eight minutes from time sealed tomorrow evening's replay.
We head into tomorrow's FA Trophy tie looking to improve on last season's attempt which saw us fall at this hurdle last season. A 2-0 home defeat to then Evo-Stik Farsley Celtic in the Third Qualifying Round ended our hopes last season.
The Reds will be looking to extend this two game unbeaten run into three in all competitions. We'll also be aiming to correct recent home form which has seen us lose our last three league games at home and return to winning ways at the Impact Arena.
Blyth have had a season of big change with key players departing in the summer and raft of new additions to their squad and new boss in Lee Clark.
After a horrid start to the 2019/20 season which saw the Spartans go without a win in 12, they have steadied the ship, losing just twice in their last ten in all competitions. They still find themselves in 21st place in the league table, two points from safety but Blyth's recent results will be cause for positivity that they can finish the season away from the relegation places.
The Spartans have lost just once in their last six but have only registered one win away from home so far this season, a 1-0 win at Curzon on the 12th October.
