PREVIEW: AFC Telford United

PREVIEW: AFC Telford United

Towerzey Lisa20 Sep - 11:00

.

Alfreton Town return to league action next Saturday, when interim boss Demaro Woodruffe takes his side into battle at the Impact Arena against AFC Telford United.

It has been a testing start to the campaign for the Bucks’, who arrive still searching for a first away win of the season under Kevin Wilkin. Telford may have strung together three successive victories at home, but life on the road has proven a different story, and Alfreton will be eager to ensure that record remains intact.

The Reds themselves are looking to build momentum after a difficult opening spell. Sitting 22nd in the table with six points from eight matches. Demaro Woodruffe first outing produced encouraging signs in a 1-1 draw against King’s Lynn, with the side showing resilience and attacking purpose. The FA Cup defeat at Spalding was a setback, but the focus now firmly returns to the league, where the Reds will be determined to sharpen up at both ends of the pitch.

The Reds have conceded 16 goals while scoring six so far, but there are reasons for optimism since they boulsted their attacking options with Austin Samuels joining from Spennymoor Town and Jed Abbey returning to the club having been the Reds top scorer last season.

Head-to-head history favours the Reds strongly. Alfreton have won the last five meetings between the two clubs, with the Bucks’ last victory in the fixture coming all the way back on Boxing Day 2019. Having established such a strong recent record against Telford, the Reds will take confidence into Saturday’s clash.

The Ofton faithful will no doubt be hoping that run continues, as Woodruffe and Conneely look to steer Alfreton back up the table and kick-start their 2025/26 season.
