PREVIEW | Darlington v Alfreton Town

Alfreton face tough midweek test

Alfreton Town face a stern test of their early season credentials on Tuesday night when they travel North to face Darlington FC in National League North.

Its Matchday 7 and the Reds have bounced back from opening day defeat at Southport brilliantly. Alfreton sit in sixth place on 11 points from 6 points, five points adrift of pace setters Scunthorpe United.

After finishing last season with a flourish to avoid relegation after a disappointing campaign Darlington have started this season slowly and currently lie 15th in the league Steve Watson`s side will be a tough test for the Reds however as they are three matches unbeaten including two home wins and three successful clean sheets.
The Quakers have only lost to Kidderminster on the opening day and Derbyshire rivals Buxton so far this season. The home side also come in to the contest off the back of a win over Spennymoor in the County Durham Derby.

Alfreton are in final fettle themselves however and will be morale boosted by claiming all three points against a dogged Farsley side thanks to Jed Abbey`s last gasp stunning free kick on an afternoon where they were far from their best.

The result which was very harsh on Farsley turned out to be manager Clayton Donaldosn`s last match in charge of the Celts.

Goals from Gerry Mcdonagh and Jake Day sealed a 2-0 win for Alfreton back in February in the last game between the sides to leave the Quakers staring relegation in the face but Steve Watson`s men rallied to avoid the drop by season's end.

There is no doubt a stern examination of Alfreton`s promotion credentials.

Former Alfreton player Joe Leesley is out with a back injury and the dangerous Cedric Main is an injury doubt for the hosts
