PREVIEW | Banbury United vs Alfreton Town

PREVIEW | Banbury United vs Alfreton Town

Towerzey Lisa18 Apr 2023 - 10:20

Alfreton's run in continues with a trip to Oxfordshire to take on Banbury United

Four Gargantuan games remain for Alfreton Town of this National League North season starting with a first ever game in the Clubs history in the county of Oxfordshire on Tuesday evening with a visit to Banbury United as the Reds play the first of their two games in hand.

A Jordan Thewlis goal 8 minutes from time on Saturday was enough for Alfreton to pick up what could be a precious point against play off rivals Gloucester City at New Meadow Park which saw Alfreton Town move back into the play off positions following Darlington`s 3-0 defeat at Brackley Town.

The Reds know a victory at the Banbury Community Stadium could put them in a commanding position in the race to land a play off place as three points will see Billy Heath`s men move up to fifth place in the league standings still with another game in hand on their rivals.

Banbury United are participating in their first ever season at Step 2 of the Non League Pyramid and after enjoying a strong start which saw them lead the division at one point they have begun to struggle with the rigours of the National League North but are all but safe in 17th position.

The two clubs met for the first time in their histories 41 days ago in the Impact Arena and Alfreton were victorious by a 2-0 scoreline after goals from Dwayne Wiley and Ahmed Salam in the early stages of the second half were enough to separate the sides back in March.

This evening's game is segregated and we ask Alfreton supporters to enter through Sutton End of the ground, the turnstiles can be found to the far left of the main car park, Banbury will have stewards around to direct you in the right place. The Sutton End of the ground is STANDING ONLY.
