PREVIEW | Alfreton Town vs Kings Lynn Town

Reds travel to Linnets on Bank Holiday Monday

Its a rapid turnaround for Alfreton Town as they travel to Norfolk to take on Kings Lynn Town in the second game of a busy August Bank Holiday double header in the National League North on Monday afternoon.
After three straight league victories had propelled the Reds up to fifth in the league standings Alfreton head in to the game on the back of a first home league loss of the campaign, a slender 3-2 defeat to Darlington on Saturday.

The Reds had gone in to the interval behind after a first half goal from Andrew Nelson but to their credit showed great application to fightback in the second half through substitute Jake Day who planted a beautiful header past the keeper from an astute Adam Lund cross.

It was Darlington substitute Finlay Barnes, signed on loan from York City in midweek, that made a decisive impact as two goals in 6 minutes including a goal with his first touch proved crucial. The Reds continued to battle with trademark grit and determination as Jordan Thewlis made it a nervy last 10 minutes but the Quakers held out for the win.

Billy Heath would have been disappointed to see both Ryan Taylor and Harry Perritt leave the pitch in the first half against Darlington with injuries that will keep both out for a period of time.

Kings Lynn have had a difficult start to the new season following defeat to Kidderminster Harriers in the play off semi final last season.

Mark Hughes` side are still searching for the first win of the season after the first five league matches. They sit in 21st place in the table with three points. Indeed the Linnets are yet to lead a match at any point so far this campaign and lost 3-1 away to Chorley on Saturday in their last outing.

Alfreton have a poor record aginst Kings Lynn Town since their promotion to the National League North. They are yet to win against the Linnets in seven league and cup games since 2019. The Reds did win a FA Cup Third Qualifying Round tie at the Walks back in the 2016/17 season 2-0 thanks to a barce of Adam Priestley goals however.

The Supporters Association Transport departs at 08:45 am and you can call Mark on 07857 5558401 to book your seat to cheer on the lads to hopefully gain another three points!
