PREVIEW | Alfreton Town v Farsley Celtic

PREVIEW | Alfreton Town v Farsley Celtic

Towerzey Lisa29 Aug 2024 - 19:03

Reds return home looking for maximum points against Celts

Alfreton Town finish off their August schedule on Saturday afternoon with the visit of Farsley Celtic to the Impact Arena in the National League North.

Its safe to say the Reds have dealt amicably with a difficult fixture list in the early weeks of the season. Billy Heath would have been pleased with a tricky bank holiday weekend well negotiated. The Reds suffered two defeats over the corresponding weekend last campaign so a home point over promotion fancied Chester and a win at newcomers Needham Market after an overnight stay and a 340 mile round trip would have been a satisfactory return.

Jed Abbey is in scintillating goalscoring form as his second half brace in deepest Suffolk at Needham Market on Bank Holiday Monday made it four goals in his last three appearances for Alfreton Town. The summer signing from South Shields has become a firm favourite at the Impact Arena with only Dominic Tear at Scarborough having scored more this campaign (5)

Saturday`s opposition Farsley Celtic have avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth in the last three seasons and will be looking to improve on that this term. Indeed the Celts stayed up thanks to Alfreton`s final day over local rivals Guiseley in 2021/22.
Due to improvement works at their home ground Farsley are not scheduled to host a National League North game until September 21st when Leamington are set to visit.
Clayton Donaldson`s side were many people`s favourites to fall through the relegation trap door this season but the Celts have made a surprising start to the campaign. Wins away at Rushall on the opening day, Marine and Warrington leave Farsley three places and one point ahead of the Reds.
Despite this Ofton will be keen to extend the unbeaten home run and pick up maximum points ahead of a tricky midweek away trip to Darlington Tuesday night.
Billy Heath`s side are eight matches unbeaten against the Yorkshire side with five clean sheets in that run.
Goals from Jake Day, Liam Waldock and Adam Lund sealed a 3-2 win in the last meeting between the teams last season.

the pay and display parking on Rogers Lane, DE55 7FF and also at Severn Square, DE55 7BT - both are a five to ten minute walk to and from the Impact Arena.

Please be considerate of residents on the estate next to the arena, particularly Connaught Court, Bentley Close and North Street. We ask supporters to avoid parking in the residential areas around the ground and instead ask that you follow the advice and park in the pay and display car parks
