The National League North season is in full swing and Alfreton Town begin a potentially crucial August Bank Holiday double header by hosting Chester at the Impact on Saturday before a first ever visit to league newcomers Needham Market on August 26th.
Billy Heath`s side have won 1 drawn 1 and lost 1 of their opening trio of fixtures. Their first midweek game of the campaign saw the Reds draw 2-2 against Leamington on Tuesday evening.
Alfreton created a catalogue of chances and took the lead through David Moyo early in the second half. Leamington, newly promoted back to National League North for the 2024/25 season, battled gamely however.
The Brakes levelled against the run of play through centre back George Ward. In an engaging game Alfreton created several further chances but it was the Warwickshire side who told the lead with 5 minutes of the ninety to play.
Alfreton continued to create chances however and grabbed a share of the spoils thanks to summer signing Jed Abbey`s first goal for the club deep in stoppage time.
The Reds were forced therefore to settle for a share of the points in a game they created another cast iron chances to win the contest.
Billy Heath`s men will be eager to move on from the disappointment of not taking maximum points against Leamington by welcoming Chester FC to the Impact Arena.
Ofton are 14 matches unbeaten in all competitions at their humble Impact Arena dating back to November 2023 and a 1-0 reverse against Brackley Town. Despite their slow start to the season Callum Macintyre`s Seals were predicted by many to be challenging for automatic promotion to the National League this season so should not be underestimated.
The Reds are still yet to record a home win against the Blues and will be hoping to bring that run to an end on Saturday afternoon. The last meeting between the two teams at the Deva Stadium back on Easter Monday was an extremely memorable one as Alfreton recorded their first ever win against Chester at Step Two of the National League System.
A simply superb, commanding performance on the road saw two brilliant bullet headers from Kennedy Digie secure a famous win on the road for Ofton.
