January 2020 will see the launch of the new Derbyshire FA Flexi-Football league, which will be played at Long Eaton United.

The league is being set up to combat the decline in adult male participation in football, with teams playing fortnightly matches on Monday evenings.

The league will consist of two six-team divisions, with each division playing once a fortnight on alternating Monday evenings.

Matches in the league will be 50 minutes long and will be played on Long Eaton United’s brand-new floodlit 3G pitch.

Participating teams will have to pay £40 per match, equating to £3.60 per player
(based on 11 players in a team).

Teams will be seeded based on their first three matches, and then placed into either
division one or two. Following this each team will play each other twice before a promotion and relegation.

Adam Wing, Derbyshire FA’s Football Development Officer for Clubs, Leagues,
and Workforce, said:

“It’s a great opportunity for those who may miss out on playing due to prior engagements or a busy life schedule. Flexi-football gives people a chance to play in 11-a-side matches without the commitments attached to playing regular 90-minute matches.

“Hopefully, the league will encourage players to go on and play Saturday or Sunday
league football, so helping to grow the male game in Derbyshire.”

The Derbyshire FA are looking for brand new teams to join the league rather than
teams who are already affiliated.
