Improved performance from Billy Heath`s side but a third straight defeat sees Alfreton slip to 14th

Hereford vs Alfreton match report by Matty Cotterill.
The Reds were undone in the second half and dropped to 14th in the NLN standings.
The first half started positively for Alfreton. A sense of optimism surrounded the fixture, as the Reds' last defeat to the Bulls was in 2018.
Sam Osbourne had the first notable action. His clever footwork brought him inside on his favoured right foot on the edge of the 18-yard area, as he looked to bend it into the far corner. The effort failed to trouble Richardson in the hosts' net as it safely sailed far and wide.
A minute later Lewis Salmon would have a snapshot from a wide angle as Richardson had wondered of his line, however, the attempt would end up in the grateful grasp of the goalkeeper as Salmon failed to punish the keeper's poor positioning.
Once again, only moments after, George Cantrill would provide some clever play that would result in Salmon hitting a wicked strike on his left foot, bending towards the far corner, but was just inches over the bar.
After a quiet spell, Gerry McDonagh would use his body well to come away with a loose ball deep in the opposition’s half, he drove towards the goal and moved the ball onto his left foot, but as he went to strike, he slipped, and the ball ended would bobble into a relived Richardson.
The sides went into the break in a deadlock, but The Reds looked positive and seemed to be chipping away at the hosts with most of the key moments.
The story of the first half would not reflect the events of the second half, as less than five minutes into the second period, Mitchell would look to finish off some good play for the hosts, but he couldn’t keep his effort under the crossbar.
After, Osbourne charged at The Bulls with a magnificent solo run as he strutted up to the edge of the box, but he couldn’t provide the finish to cap it off.
Former Red Ceesay would be the first to leave a permanent mark on the game, as with a great turn of pace, he charged into the box and hit the ball low towards Jake Askew’s goal, the strike took a deflection which ultimately resulted in the ball finding its way into the back of the net.
Alfreton would try and clap back at the hosts soon after falling behind, as debutant Matheson hung up a cross for Salmon who met it at the back post, but his header went straight at Richardson.
A mad moment in the box would follow as bodies started to fly in the Alfreton penalty area, following a promising free kick from the hosts, the ball would eventually be deflected out for a corner.
Jed Abbey would then look to flash a ball across the goal, but a strong hand from Richardson would make sure there would be no more danger.
Tate Campbell would provide the icing on the cake for the Hereford as he headed home from a set piece to wrap up all three points eight minutes from time
Hereford could have had a third as White was bounding through, 1-on-1 with Askew, but lost his footing to the relief of The Reds.
Alfreton now sit in 14th position, one place behind Tuesday night’s opponents South Shields
