Warrington Town is the latest destination for Alfreton Town as the National League North continues apace on Saturday afternoon.
Billy Heath`s side are in need of a boost after a run of three defeat in four outings in all competitions has shunted the momentum of the previous unbeaten run.
Last time out on Tuesday evening Alfreton suffered a first ever defeat to Peterborough Sports in the fifth meeting between the clubs. Alfreton looked the better of the two sides for the vast majority of the night. The Reds showed their intentions from the very start as form horse Liam Waldock smacked the post inside the opening 30 seconds of the game. Alfreton created a number of other chances before a super strike from Jake Day on 37 minutes gave Alfreton a deserved lead.
Alfreton looked to have held the Turbines at armed length as while Sports enjoyed the better of the second period Reds keeper George Willis barely had a shot of any description to have that was until Sports introduced Michael Gyasi to the fray on 80 minutes.
With 84 minutes elapsed the ball fell to the former Boston United player who scored the match winning penalty in Alfreton`s agonizing Play off defeat in May, and he scored a pearler of a goal to bring the hosts level. The quality of the goal shocked Alfreton and it soon deteriorated further as Gyasi grabbed two further goals in stoppage time including one from the penalty spot to inflicting a damaging 3-1 defeat on Ofton who slipped to 10th in the league table.
The defeat would have brought back memories of last season`s trip to Cantilever Park Warrington, the next destination in this seasons fixture programme. Last season goals from Liam Waldock and Billy Fewster looked to have put the Reds in a commanding position against the Yellows. However former Derby County defender Andre Wisdom halved the defecit on 89 before goalkeeper Dan Atherton broke Alfreton hearts with a 97th minute header.
No better way to rid yourself of demons that at the very scene of those demons however as Alfreton will be fired up no doubt to get back to winning ways.
Ofton will be also keen to avoid back to back league defeats for the first time since the August bank holiday weekend of 2023 at home to Darlington and away at Kings Lynn Town
Warrington Town are 18th in the league standings and head in to the fixture on the back of a hard fought and encouraging 0-0 draw against Brackley Town. The Cheshire side are enjoying their second season in National League North after a top half finish last term. Former manager Paul Carden has returned to the club for a second spell in charge after the sacking of long term manager Mark Beesley earlier this season. Carden has previously locked Horns with the Reds while at Southport and AFC Telford and previously managed Town between 2016 and 2021.
