After a two week break due to their early exit from the Emirates FA Cup, Alfreton Town finally return to action on Saturday when they travel to Radcliffe FC in the Enterprise National League North.
It's been a lean period for the Reds with this being the only scheduled fixture before our crucial away visit to Peterborough Sports on October 18th.
Last time out back on September 20th, a goal from Austin Samuels on debut from 12 yards was enough to record a grueling 1-0 home win in driving rain at the Impact Arena. It was a much needed win that lifted the Reds outside of the relegation zone ahead of the trip to Radcliffe.
Alfreton will be eager to build on the result against AFC Telford, however Radcliffe have started the new campaign well and in a rich vein of form. The Greater Manchester side are managed by the vastly experienced and successful duo of Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley, and sit inside playoff position in seventh after a strong start.
Like the Reds, Radcliffe exited the FA Cup at the first hurdle after a replay defeat to divisional rivals Southport. However, in the league, a long trip to newcomers Merthyr Town produced a comprehensive 5-0 win. That result, along with a 5-1 victory at Oxford City and a 4-1 triumph at home against Marine, shows that Radcliffe boast a formidable strike force - so it’s no surprise they currently have the highest XG in the National League North.
Radcliffe finished 20th last season, in their first season back at Step 2 of the non league system. They will be hoping to leave more of a mark this time around. Radcliffe’s striker Rio Clegg has risen six divisions in just the last two seasons and already boasts two hat-tricks this term, making him a player to watch. They also boast former Reds, Jude Oyibo and Callum McFadzean, in their ranks.
Alfreton’s historical record against Radcliffe is: Played 28 / Won 13 / Drawn 9 / Lost 6
This includes a rather mundane 1-1 draw between the sides on the final day of last season after both teams had already long confirmed their place in the league. Adam Anson’s looping header cancelled out Jordan Hulme’s first half opener on Alfreton’s last visit to the Neuven Stadium.
Alfreton along with each member of the bottom six are still waiting for their first away win and will be hoping to end this run as soon as possible.
Radcliffe have announced they have reduced admission prices for the fixture with Adults the bargain price of £10 and Concessions only a fiver with Under 16s COMPLETELY FREE.
So no better time to make the relatively short journey over to Greater Manchester to support our interim management team of Demaro Woodruffe, Ryan Coneely and Calum Flaagan in their quest for a third league game unbeaten as we look to distance ourselves from the relegation places!
