Alfreton Town are on the road on Saturday when they make the trip south to face in form Hereford FC in the National League North in the second of a trio of consecutive away games .
The Reds are looking to arrest an alarming slump down the table which has seen them slip to 13th in the league table after the latest reverse at Spennymoor Town in midweek. Goals from Corey McKeown, Callum Ross and the dangerous Glen Taylor put the hosts in the commanding 3-0 lead despite the Reds making good starts to each half. A second half goal from Lewis Salmon which took his season tally to nine turned out to be a consolation.
Tuesday night`s loss, Alfreton`s third in four meetings with Spennymoor across league and cup this season made it eight defeats in the last ten outings for Billy Heath`s side.
The Reds are 12 points clear of Marine in the fourth and final relegation place who picked up an eye catching 3-1 home win over Kidderminster Harriers during the week.
Alfreton will be eager to extend the gap sooner rather than later but Saturday`s hosts Hereford will be far from a push over and are one of the form sides in the division.
Six victories in their last seven league outings has propelled Paul Caddis`s side to the dizzy heights of fifth place in the league.
Alfreton will be hoping rumours linking the former Birmingham City man to the vacant job at National League strugglers AFC Fylde prove to be a distraction as Ofton look to protect a good run of results against the Bulls of 10 meetings unbeaten dating back to December 2018, Billy Heath`s first season in charge of the Reds.
Hereford`s last outing was a 3-2 home win over bottom of the league Warrington with fellow Derbyshire side Buxton set to make the journey to Herefordshire on Tuesday.
