Match Preview: Alfreton Town v Stoke City

Potters to visit Derbyshire in penultimate friendly on Friday night

With just two more friendlies remaining now, before Alfreton Town travel South for their long awaited curtain raiser to the new Enterprise National League North campaign at Bedford Town on Saturday 9th August, Billy Heath will be looking to ramp preparations as he begins to decide his starting XI for the fixture.

On Friday evening, Stoke City are set to visit DE55 in our penultimate pre season clash. The Reds head into the match in good shape on the back of their most complete and pleasing performance of a positive pre-season thus far against a very strong Chesterfield FC side. The Spireites team was full of experienced EFL stars including Armandro Dobra, Will Grigg and goalscorer Chey Dunkley.

Alfreton played at a consistently high level throughout the game and earned a well-deserved share of the spoils, thanks to Billy Fewster’s well-struck effort following an Adam Lund throw-in.

It's been a really strong pre-season for Billy Heath’s men so far with plenty of promising signs. The one thing missing thus far has been a win with perhaps this fixture against the Potters and the remaining pre-season fixture against Quorn AFC a week on Saturday providing the best chance to change that.

So far this pre season Stoke City’s academy side have beaten fellow Derbyshire side Mickleover 4-3 but lost to Exmouth Town, Taunton Town and most recently National League Outfit Tamworth on Tuesday night.
