MATCH PREVIEW: Alfreton Town v Scunthorpe United

Towerzey Lisa10 Mar - 19:12

Out of form Ofton to lock horns with promotion favourites Scunthorpe United in front of the DAZN Cameras tomorrow night

After several tricky away games recently Alfreton Town start a run of six home games in the next eight with the visit of much fancied Scunthorpe United to the Impact Arena in a highly anticipated fixture.

It will be Scunthorpe`s first visit to DE55 since September 2023 when goals from goals from defenders Dwayne Wiley and Josh Clackstone meant Alfreton got a notable 2-2 draw against their high flying Lincolnshire opponents.
Indeed the last meeting between the two teams in November also ended all square in a much less action packed 0-0 draw in front of a strong crowd of 3,545 including a healthy away following.

The Reds were challenging for a play off place at the time but a run of just seven points from the last 42 on offer has seen Alfreton fall down the table alarmingly to 15th. Eleven points clear of Needham Market who occupy 21st place - the first relegation spot.
Given Alfreton have taken only a single point from their last six National League North outings Billy Heath`s side will gladly take another stalemate with the Reds boss evening saying in a recent post match interview that the Reds "need a ugly 0-0"
Scunthorpe have been in and around the playoffs all campaign and a recent upturn in form and results sees Andy Butler men sit in second place ahead of kick off with 10 games to go in this National League North season.
The Iron are one point behind league leaders Brackley Town who put Ofton to the sword thanks to a second half brace from Matt Lowe.

Despite another setback for the Reds there were without doubt positives to take aas boss Billy Heath tried a new formation which saw Alfreton create the better of the few chances in the first half.

The fixture sees Alfreton make their debut on DAZN the new home of National League TV with segregation in place for the game at the Impact Arena.
