MATCH PREVIEW: Alfreton Town v Needham Market

MATCH PREVIEW: Alfreton Town v Needham Market

Towerzey Lisa23 Jan - 20:57

Reds looking for first league win of 2025 against basement club Needham Market

After a tough January against teams above them in the league Alfreton Town start a run of fixtures against a number of sides below them in the National League North.

Despite four straight league losses in a row With 21 league games remaining Alfreton sit in 11th place and are just 5 points behind Darlington who occupy the final play off place with a game in hand on the Quakers.

Alfreton are eight points worse off than at this stage last season however so will be targeting games against basement club Needham Market, crisis club Farsley and the team with the worst away form in the next week.

First up from that trio is the Reds` third meeting with Needham Market on Saturday at the Impact Arena.

Needham Market have found life difficult in National League North after winning promotion from the Southern League Premier Central and currently prop up the division with 19 points from 25 games played.

The Market Men have won the majority of their points away and have become more difficult to beat in recent weeks. Kevin Horlock`s side have only lost 5 of their last 10 with just a single victory over that stretch of games.

A Jed Abbey brace in the second half was enough for Ofton in deepest Suffolk back on August Bank Holiday in the reverse game.

A rare goal from Josh Clackstone set Alfreton on their way to a progression in the FA Trophy against Needham back in November as further goals from Lewis Salmon and Liam Waldock sealed a 3-2 victory.

Needham Market head in to the contest on the back of a hard fought 1-1 draw against fellow relegation strugglers Radcliffe while Alfreton will look to use a similarly hard fought County Cup win in a fiesty local derby with Ilkeson as a morale booster.

Admission for each Vanarama National League North fixture at the Impact Arena during the 2024/25 season is:

Concession (Over 65yrs) - £10

the pay and display parking on Rogers Lane, DE55 7FF and also at Severn Square, DE55 7BT - both are a five to ten minute walk to and from the Impact Arena.

Please be considerate of residents on the estate next to the arena, particularly Connaught Court, Bentley Close and North Street. We ask supporters to avoid parking in the residential areas around the ground and instead ask that you follow the advice and park in the pay and display car parks
