Reds look to end losing streak against Brakes of Leamington FC

The tough schedule for Alfreton Town shows no signs of abating as Leamington are set to visit Derbyshire tomorrow night for our 27th league outing of the 2024/25 season.

Its been an arduous january so far for Alfreton. Four straight defeats against play off challengers Buxton, Curzon, Brackley and Chester was followed up by a shattering capitulation against Relegation strugglers Needham Market.

After an uneventful first half Lewis Salmon gave the Reds the lead just before the hour after he converted from close range after Jed Abbey`s initial effort had been well saved by Market men goalkeeper Josh Blunkell. Salmon soon had his second of the game and third of the season on 66 minutes as he scored with close quarters to make it 2-0.

The visitors rung the changes with 15 minutes to go. Reggie Lambe came on hit the frame of the goal and less than a minute later reduced their arrears through through Tommy Smith.

Alfreton have a great opportunity to seal the game when sub Gerry mcDonagh found Jed Abbey but he was denied by a wonderful save. To add insult to injury a leveller from Liam Cross was followed by a winner from Reggie Lambe as Alfreton crashed to a home defeat which extended the run of consecutive defeats to five .

This is the first time Alfreton have lost five games in a row since November 2019 to December 2019. The Reds havent lost six in a row since March to April 2017 under the management of Russ O Neil.

Billy Heath`s men will be looking to avoid equaling that run against Leamington
The two sides are 21st (Alfreton) and 19th (Leamington) in the form guide over the last 10 matches.
Ofton have a strong recent record against the Brakes unbeaten in their last six meetings and will be hopefully of extending that run tomorrow night.

Leamington are managed by the one manager who has been in post longer than Billy Heath- Paul Holleran.

The Brakes are still adjusting to life without Callum Stewart who recently made a move to EFL League One side Shrewsbury.
