Alfreton Town will look to continue a positive pre-season on Saturday when local rivals Chesterfield visit the Impact Arena in Ofton's latest tricky examination of their credentials.
Despite not yet feeling the winning feeling so far this summer Alfreton have really impressed supporters and opponents alike with some hard working showings against full time opponents.
There is no let up in the difficulty of the opposition with the annual pre-season visit of EFL League Two side Chesterfield this weekend. The Spireites lost in the play off semi finals last season and will be looking to go one step further this year when they start their EFL campaign at home to Barrow on the 2nd of August.
Paul Cook`s side have locked excellent so far in convincing victories over Burton Albion, who the Reds have previously faced themselves, (5-0) and most recently they beat Gibraltan side Europa Point 8-3 in a Pre Season Training Camp in Malaga.
The two sides have met regularly in preparation for their respective league seasons on a regular basis. Alfreton last tasted victory in 2021 while the clash in 2022 was cancelled due to an exceptionally hot heatwave.
Alfreton were crowned County Cup champions with a penalty shootout win over Buxton at Chesterfeld's SMH Group Stadium back in April as Alfreton finished a tricky league season with some well earned silverware.
Billy Heath's side head into the contest on the back of another performance of promise against National League side Scunthorpe United.
Despite a 2-1 defeat on the night, Trialist Number nine notched his second goal of pre-season with a pinpoint header past the goalkeeper.
