Alfreton Town turn their attention to the showpiece Derbyshire Senior Cup Final which is due to take place tomorrow night at the SMH Group Stadium, home of Chesterfield FC when the Reds set to lock horns with National League North rivals Buxton FC.
The occasion will be Alfreton`s second final in the Derbyshire FA Senior Challenge Cup under the management of Billy Heath`s. The previous appearance was in Heath`s first season in charge 2018/19 against Mickleover Sports with the Reds prevailing by a 2-1 scoreline at Pride Park in front of a crowd of 401.
In total Alfreton have won 10 Derbyshire FA Senior Challenge Cups in their history. The first was in 1960/61 and the most recent was in 2018/19.
Their opponents Buxton have been dominant in recent years winning both editions of the competition since the return from the COVID 19 Pandemic. A 2-1 win over Derby County Under 23s at Pride Park was followed up by a commanding 5-0 victory over Heanor Town at the same venue last year.
Buxton have now won the competition 12 times, the most of any club.
The two teams last met in the Third Round of the 2018/19 edition with Alfreton winning 2-1 on the way to lifting the trophy.
Indeed Alfreton are yet to concede a goal in this years competition and will be looking to end a difficult second half of the season with some silverware and put something of a marker down against the Bucks ahead of a league meeting between the pair on Easter Monday.
Alfreton won the toss and have been designated as the home team for the match.
