Reds lock horns with Brewers for latest pre season test

Pre-season preparations continue for Alfreton Town this Saturday, as Billy Heath’s side face another tough test with the latest EFL outfit, Burton Albion, visiting Derbyshire.

It's been a strong and encouraging start to pre-season for the Reds. Performances have been of a high standard with Alfreton remaining disciplined and compact as a unit while carrying a threat at the other end.

Club legend Josh Clackstone scored just his second ever pre-season goal during his many years of service to the club, converting a well-taken penalty against Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night. In an unusual twist, the match was split into two 60-minute halves rather than the conventional 90 minutes.

Alfreton impressed in the first encounter, with Josh Clackstone’s penalty securing a 1-1 draw. A more experimental lineup was fielded in the second clash, but there were still several encouraging performances, including a standout goal from a trialist, as Alfreton narrowly lost by a single goal to a strong Doncaster side.

Saturday’s visitors, Burton Albion, will provide another stern test at the Impact Arena in what will be Alfreton’s third pre-season fixture. After a tough start to last season, the appointment of Gary Bowyer as manager sparked a major turnaround in form for The Brewers. His arrival proved crucial, guiding the Brewers to a dramatic escape from relegation and securing another season in League One.

These two sides last met during preparations for the 2023/24 campaign, with Burton running out 4-1 winners at the Impact Arena. Jake Day was on target for Ofton that night, converting from the penalty spot.

Alfreton’s Max Hunt will undergo a late fitness test, while Lewis Salmon hopes to make his first pre-season appearance after recovering from a thigh injury sustained in training.
