Alfreton Town host EFL League One newcomers Doncaster Rovers at the Impact Arena on Tuesday 8th July, in our second pre-season outing as preparations continue for the new National League North season, which kicks off on Saturday 9th August 2025.
Billy Heath’s men started their pre-season programme with one of their strongest showings in several years, against Notts County FC.
The Reds dominated long spells of the contest against their EFL opponents, delivering a performance that impressed both the Ofton fans and Billy Heath alike. The team showed cohesion as a unit, complemented by several standout individual displays - notably new signing Siya Liguendza, who made a strong impression with his energy and physicality, posing real problems for the Magpies’ backline in the second half.
Tomorrow night’s opponents, Doncaster Rovers, are about to embark on their first campaign in League One in four years after being crowned champions of League Two under the management of Grant McCann last season. McCann played against Alfreton for Scunthorpe United in the Second Round of the FA Cup back in 2008.
While the game provides another good opportunity for trialists to showcase their abilities to Billy and the management team this fixture has a twist as it consists of two matches of 60 minutes each rather than the conventional 90 minutes. Both matches will consist of a mix of first team players and trialists.
