Match Preview - Chorley v Alfreton Town

.

Alfreton Town hit the road tonight for Match Day 15 in the 2025/26 Enterprise National League North season, as they make the trip to Lancashire to take on Andy Preece’s Chorley.

After a poor performance on their last away day at Buxton, Jake Buxton’s side responded with a really positive attitude and application in the draw with Kidderminster Harriers at the weekend.

Siya Ligendza who worked tirelessly throughout and ran himself into the ground for the cause, was on hand to snatch a dramatic draw for the Reds in the final minute of stoppage time.

The visitors, Kidderminster Harriers, who currently occupy a playoff spot under former Mansfield and Boston boss Adam Murray, took the lead just before the break. Tobi Sho-Silva found the net in the third minute of first-half stoppage time, converting from a corner kick.

Alfreton continued to plug away in the second half while struggling to create chances. The lively Siya Ligendza forced a strong save from Christian Dibble in the Harriers goal just past the hour. The visitors from Worcestershire continued to pose a threat of their own with the Ofton keeper pulling a couple of tremendous saves from close range to keep Alfreton in the contest.

With just seconds remaining, Siya Ligendza rose inside the area and powered a precise header into the corner of the net, sending the home fans into raptures.

It was a gritty performance full of determination, something Reds boss Jake Buxton will look to build on against Chorley on Tuesday night.

After back-to-back playoff campaigns over the past two seasons under manager Andy Preece, Chorley head into the contest out of form and searching for a positive result to halt a run of six games without a win.

The Magpies have already suffered defeat to Leamington and drawn with Oxford City this season, and have just two points from meetings with the bottom sides following a 2-1 loss at Peterborough Sports on Saturday.

Indeed, both teams last tasted victory on the 20th of September, Chorley at home to Macclesfield, and Alfreton at home to AFC Telford United.

It was one win apiece in the meetings between the clubs last season with Liam Waldock’s late winner securing a win at the Impact Arena. In the corresponding fixture at Victory Park on Non League Day 2025, it was a disappointing 2-0 defeat for Ofton after a Mike Calveley brace in the opening twenty minutes left the game out of reach.

Alfreton will be eager to register an away win tonight as they look to lift themselves out of danger.

Travel (Car)

Leave the M6 at Junction 27 and take the A5209 towards Standish/Chorley. On reaching a small roundabout with an Esso garage on the left, take the 1st exit into Chorley Road. Follow this road until its end where you will reach a T-junction that has a set of traffic lights. Turn left at the lights onto the A6 towards Preston.

At the next roundabout take the first exit towards the town centre and then take the immediate left into Duke Street. Then take the second left into Ashby Street and the entrance to the ground is down on the right.

There is little car parking available at the ground itself, so it is mostly a case of finding some street parking.
