We are only in December but for the third time time this season already Spennymoor Town will make the long journey from the North East to Derbyshire on Saturday to face Alfreton Town at the Impact Arena to contest a tie in the Third Round of the FA Trophy.
The two sides met back in September in the Fourth and final qualifying round of this year's FA Cup. In a hard fought contest it was the Reds who came on top with Liam Waldock`s goal 16 minutes from time proving enough to secure a tight 1-0 win.
The Reds clashed with the Moors just ten dates later this time in National League North action in DE55. It Was typically tight and keenly fight. While Billy heath`s side enjoyed the better of the first half it was Graeme Lee`s Spennymoor side who prevailed on this occasion thanks to an unfortunate second half goal. This defeat ended Alfreton`s long unbeaten 11 month home unbeaten run as the County Durham gained revenge for the FA Cup defeat.
Ofton head in to this latest meeting in the isuzu FA Trophy Third Round still above their opponents in 10th place with Spennymoor two further places back in 12th.
Alfreton set up the tie thanks to a 3-2 home win over fellow National League North side Needham Market secured thanks to goals from Josh Clackstone, Lewis Salmon and Liam Waldock.
Spennymoor also beat a National League North side at home in the previous round beating South Shields 2-1 thanks to goals from Rob Ramshaw and Tom Allan.
Alfreton Town Chairman Wayne Bradley has announced he will be once again running the offer of a free drink to all Impact Arena attendees should a as yet unspecified Reds player find the net against Spennymoor.
Spennymoor head in to the game unbeaten in seven games in all competitions (W2 D5) with another tight and keenly contested clash expected.
Should the scores be level after 90 minutes then penalties will decide the victors with £4500 awarded to the winning club and £1250 to the losers.
