Alfreton Town turn their attention back to the Buildbase FA Trophy when they make a return trip to the Tameside Stadium to face National League North Rivals Curzon Ashton on Saturday just two weeks after their league visit.
Following on from their gritty 2-1 win in the league the Reds travel to the Nash with a number of players back available including experienced striker Matt Rhead who popped up with the equalizer in the 1-1 draw with Gloucester City last time out.
Once again the Reds were made to rue their missed chances as they were forced to settle for a point when, arguably a bright second half showing deserved more against the Tigers.
Just like in the previous round Alfreton head into the contest in 9th place in the National League North and just like in the previous round with Leamington they will lock horns with the team a place above them in 8th in Curzon with goal difference the only thing separating the sides so perhaps a tight game may be in prospect.
The winners of the Third Round tie will pocket £4,500 while the losers will earn £1,250 with the game set to be decided by kicks from the penalty mark if the scores are level at the end of the 90 minutes.
The Third Round Proper is the furthest the hosts have ever got in the competition while a win will allow the Reds to equal their best achieved in the 2002/03 season (Burscough) and 2004/05 (Woking)
The two sides have previous history in the FA Trophy. The Reds and the Nash met in the First Qualifying Round in 1981/82.
On Saturday 24th October the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at North Street with Steve Eamer on the scoresheet for Alfreton. A week later the two sides met in a replay with a Keith Greaves Brace securing a 2-1 win with the Reds going on to bow out in the next round away to Colywn Bay (1-5).
