The Emirates FA Cup draw has been released this lunchtime by the FA for the Second qualifying Round the stage Alfreton enter the competition. Its a familiar tale as the Reds are away for the sixth straight season at this stage and for the fourth time in that run to Lincolnshire Opposition in last seasons opponents Spalding United.
Last year Alfreton prevailed on penalties over the Tulips in a penalty shoot out a the Impact Arena only secured thanks to a sublime goal from Billy Whitehouse in the dying minutes of extra time. There had been over 200 minutes of scoreless football between the sides as both sides battled hard to secure passage to the next round.
After a slow to start to their first season back at Step 3 Spalding United went on to finish a respectable 7th place under the management of jimmy Dean last seasib.
Spalding have made some strong additions to their squad in the summer including former Alfreton favourite Yusifu Ceesay from Hereford.
Please note The Tulips are not currently playing home matches due to delays in getting an artificial pitch laid at their ground.
A last minute winner secured progression in the last round away nearby Ilkeston Town - In fact this is Spalding`s five consecutive FA Cup tie against Derbyshire opposition
Therefore further details on where the tie will take place will be communicated in due course
