Reds face Linnets in Second Qualifying Round

Alfreton Town face fellow National League North side Kings Lynn Town in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round at the Impact Arena tomorrow afternoon, kick off is 3pm.

The Reds suffered a shock league defeat last weekend at Kettering Town, handing the Poppies only their second league win of the season. It was a performance which was far below the standards set in the ten games prior to last weekend's defeat and a result which we'll look to bounce back from straight away tomorrow.

The game started in the worst possible way with Alfreton conceding two in the opening four minutes, the first a penalty after just 20 seconds. The two goals was a challenge that we never really recovered from despite Amari Morgan-Smith grabbing his 11th of the season with a low shot from outside the area.

The second half saw a lack of tempo and a lack of real penetration for us as we never gained momentum and we fell to a poor defeat with the performance disappointing and Billy Heath stating the defeat was a deserved one for his side.

However we have made a positive start to the new campaign with the Reds in 5th place after 11 games and attention now moves to the FA Cup tomorrow.

We head into the game having lost two of our last three games but we remain undefeated at the Impact Arena this season, which bodes well ahead of tomorrow's tie.

The Reds are aiming for a fifth straight win in all competitions at home.

Visitors Kings Lynn have started the new season strongly and are sitting in third place in the league table. They sit a point off the top with only one defeat so far this season which came away to Guiseley (3-0) on the opening day.

Kings Lynn Away Form: P5, W2, D2, L1.

The Linnets head into the fixture off the back to two straight draws in the league but they are unbeaten in their last ten games. Tomorrow's tie pits two of the National League North's highest scorers with the Reds bagging 23 goals this season and Kings Lynn scoring 24.

We last faced the Linnets just two weeks ago as we headed to the Walks in the National League North in a clash which saw both teams aim for a fifth league win in a row. However we trailed 2-0 after a 27 first half minutes with two long range strikes. The hosts then went down to ten men in the second half before Ben Tomlinson pulled one back only for Kings Lynn to hit a third, then for Amari Morgan-Smith to grab another one back late on.
