Reds head to Gladiators aiming for semi final spot

After Saturday's defeat at Darlington, Alfreton Town turn their attention away from the league and onto the Derbyshire Senior Cup as we face Matlock Town in the quarter final looking for yet another semi final appearance. Kick off is 7.45pm at Causeway Lane.

After a disappointing defeat on Saturday, the holders will look to right the wrongs and bounce straight back in what will be another tough away trip tomorrow night with a great atmosphere expected for this local derby.

The Reds fell to a 3-0 defeat at Darlington on Saturday as Adam Campbell hit a brace, his first after 18 an unchallenged run from the middle of the park into the box before finishing across Jordan Wright.

Campbell added a second beating the offside trap to convert past Wright before Donawa tapped home from a free kick in stoppage time.

Although the Reds were well in the contest at the break, the second half display lacked the bite and pressure needed to get back into the game and it was a disappointing display away from home.

We head into the fixture with Matlock with just one win in our last ten games in all competitions (Curzon 0-2). We have lost four of our last five away games, conceding ten goals and scoring just three times during this period of away trips.

Hosts Matlock find themselves in 19th place in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League, they have 24 points from 22 games and sit three points above the relegation places.

The Gladiators have lost their last five in all competitions, recent home form has seen two straight league defeats to Buxton (2-4) and Basford (0-1).

Last Meeting:
Tuesday 12th February 2019: DSC semi final: Matlock Town 2-4 ATFC
Our last meeting with the Gladiators came in last season's semi final as we fought from 2-1 down to round off 4-2 winners. It was the classic game of two halves, Matlock being the better team in the opening half before Alfreton better in the second.

Reece Styche put the Reds into a 10th minute lead before a brace Jonny Margetts, on 23 and 40 minutes gave the Gladiators a half time advantage. Danny O’Brien levelled just before the hour and former Alfreton goalkeeper Ross Durrant kept Matlock in it until Styche scored again with sixteen minutes left. Home skipper Adam Yates saw red for a two footed challenge on Styche shortly afterwards, Matlock finishing the game with nine men as Dwayne Wiley went off injured after the Gladiators had used all three substitutes. A deflected Bobby Johnson effort squirmed in with two minutes left to complete our comeback.
