Alfreton Town FC Announces Managerial Change.
Since his appointment in May 2018, Billy has been instrumental in shaping the club’s identity and delivering unforgettable moments for supporters. Under his leadership, Alfreton has:
- Lifted the Derbyshire Senior Challenge Cup twice, in 2018–19 and 2024–25.
- Achieved back-to-back National League North play-off campaigns with 5th-place finishes in 2022–23 and 2023–24, narrowly falling to the eventual play-off winners on both occasions.
- Reached the FA Cup Second Round in 2023–24, matching the club’s best-ever performance, including a televised 0–0 draw vs Walsall before a narrow 1–0 defeat in the replay.
- Progressed to the Fourth Round of the FA Trophy in 2021–22, equalling Alfreton’s best run in the competition.
- Celebrated Billy’s 300th match in charge in February 2025, establishing him as the second-longest-serving manager in club history.
Billy has left a lasting legacy at Alfreton Town FC. His leadership, his passion, and his ability to consistently compete at the top end of this division have been invaluable. He brought stability and ambition to this club, and on behalf of everyone at ATFC, we thank him for his incredible contribution and wish him the very best in the next chapter of his career.
This transition marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Alfreton Town FC, defined by three core pillars that will guide the club’s future:
1. Informed Approach: leveraging advanced data to inform team selections, tactics, training, recruitment.
2. Development: strengthening our academy pathway to create a clear route from youth to first team and to develop talent as valuable assets.
3. Elite Mentality: fostering a culture of ambition, professionalism, and relentlessness across every match, training session, and film review.
We are entering a period of transformation, one where data, development, and mentality work together to create an ambitious and modern football club. These pillars will underpin everything we do as we set out to compete at the highest possible level.
To ensure stability during this period, Demaro Woodruffe has been appointed Interim First-Team Manager, supported by Ryan Conneely as First-Team Interim Coach. Together, they will lead training, match preparation, and integrate analytics and academy pathways into first-team operations.
The club has also formed a First-Team Leadership Group consisting of senior players George Willis and club captain Adam Lund. The group will act as player liaisons, ensuring strong communication and alignment between the squad and management throughout this transition.
The search for a permanent First-Team Manager begins immediately. Applications are open to candidates who share the club’s vision of analytics-driven performance, youth development, and elite mentality. Interested applicants can submit their CVs, coaching philosophy, and relevant experience to demaro@alfretontownfc.com.
Alfreton Town FC stands at a turning point, committed to honouring its proud history while boldly embracing the future. With a renewed structure, clear principles, and a shared ambition, the club is ready to take the next step toward long-term success.
