With nine league games to go this season Reds boss Billy Heath has stepped into the transfer market ahead of the final run in with the exciting addition of experienced goalkeeper George Sykes-Kenworthy on loan from York until the end of the season.
Sykes-Kenworthy is no stranger to National League North racking up over 100 appearances at Step 2, the majority of which with Bradford Park Avenue but also Guiseley and Boston United.
Sykes-Kenworthy was also a team mate of Reds favourite George Cantrill when they were both at Guiseley in August to September 2019
George, 25, was born in Huddersfield and began his career at Bradford City at a young age. He enjoyed short and useful loan spells at Stalybridge Celtic and Stafford Rangers.
The keeper made a couple of appearances for the Bantams first team in the EFL Trophy before he was released by the West Yorkshire club in July 2020.
George was snapped up by Derby County on a 1 year deal where he made 10 appearances for the Rams Under 23 side in the PL2 helping them keep three clean sheets against teams like Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
Sykes-Kenworthy then returned to non league football and signed for Boston United ahead of the 2021/22 season. In December the 6 ft goalkeeper joined fellow National League North side Bradford where he racked up nearly 90 appearances putting in some eye catching performances which saw him rewarded with Bradford Pa captaincy ahead of the 2023/24 season.
In addition Sykes-Kenworthy caught the attention of National League side York City who signed the shot stopper in October 2023 for an undisclosed fee.
George made 25 appearances in the National League as the minstermen avoided relegation.
Its been a frustrating season to date for the goalkeeper however so far this campaign as a freak ankle injury picked up in training with York in September has seen him ruled out of action for several months.
Please extend a warm welcome to George, Reds!!
