Reds entertain Pilgrims in huge play off clash

After a gruelling season full of memories, high moments and a plethora of things that will be long remembered by Ofton supporters Alfreton Town have qualified for a second successive play off campaign in National League North. Despite gaining eleven more points than last year the Reds have finished in 5th place once again and consequently host Boston United under the lights at the Impact Arena tomorrow night
The Reds were expecting to face off against Curzon Ashton in the Eliminator Round but with the Nash travelling down to whipping boys Bishop`s Stortford and only coming away with a single point after a goalless draw to everyone`s surprise - this presented Boston United with the opportunity to leapfrog the Greater Manchester side in to sixth which they duly took courtesy of a 2-0 win on the road at Hereford FC.

With the winners of the tie away to Scunthorpe United in the semi finals Alfreton will be aiming to take a Lincolnshire double over the coming days but will be under no illusions at the difficulty of the task at hand.

Alfreton Town have been a formidable force in 2024 however particularly at their humble home and will be looking to extend their 13 game unbeaten Run at Fortress Impact Arena. Ofton accumulated 16 points from their last six fixtures conceding just one goal during that run The Pilgrims arrive in Derbyshire in good form themselves with Ian Culverhouse`s side finishing the regular season with a run of three consecutive shut outs taking their season long tally to 22.
George Willis took his tally to 21 with Saturday`s clean sheet in the 1-0 win at Scarborough so a tight game may be in prospect.

Jordan Thewlis finished as equal fourth top goal scorer in National League North on 17 goals alongside Boston Marksman Jimmy Knowles. Kelsey Mooney hit 16 also for United so Alfreton will need to be wary of them as well as the dangerous Jacob Hazel.

Alfreton Town won the corresponding league fixture back in September 2023 thanks to goals from Wiley and Waldock and a brace from Salmon.

Boston won the most recent clash just prior to Christmas however 3-1 with former Pilgrim Jordan Thewlis on target for the Reds from the penalty spot.

Tickets for this segregated fixture can be purchased online or on the gate with cash or card
